CURBING FAQ’S (Frequently Asked Questions)
How long does an average job take?
An average job of 150 feet will take about 4 hours from start to finish.
Will you damage my yard during the curbing installation?
No. There is no heavy equipment brought onto your property or lawn. The
machine used to make the curb is about the size of a lawn mower.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for your arrival? There are a few
things that my crew and I will need in order to complete the job. We will
need access to a water source (hose hook-up). You will need to have any and
all subterranean objects marked. We are not responsible for contacting the
utility department or identifying these objects (e.g. invisible fences,
cable lines, sprinkler systems, etc.).
Should I be concerned with the flowers and plants in my flower beds?
No! Since our machines are compact and no wider that about two feet, we will
not damage your existing flower beds or any other foliage.
Must I be present when the curbing is installed?
You do not have to be present during the curbing installation.
How long does the curbing last?
The curbing will last many years with proper care and maintenance.
How deep do you dig and how deep is the footing?
No digging is involved. We remove grass and foliage down to the bare dirt,
but do no dig down any further. There is no footer as the curb is concrete
and acts as its own footing.
What about frost and ground movement?
What makes concrete curbing so attractive is the fact that its one
continuous piece of concrete. Individual blocks or bricks will shift over
time and in the winter. We place control / expansion joints every 24-30
inches which are cut about 40% into the curb, therefore if the ground moves,
the curb will crack at these joints.
Are you limited to a design layout?
Concrete curbing is ideal for most any terrain. My machine is very easily
maneuvered, thereby providing the design flexibility needed for your
specific lawn type. It curves, circles, or extrudes straight lines to allow
for endless design capabilities.
How effective is concrete curbing in keeping out grass?
Extruded concrete curbing has a proven track record at preventing sod from
entering your landscape beds. You also do not have weeds growing in between
this edging since it is one continuous piece, nor can sod grow under it if
it is prepared correctly. Our landscape molds are designed high enough to
keep sod from growing through it, and also high enough on the back to retain
your bed covering, such as mulch.
What does it cost?
A job is estimated on the basis of many factors including the amount of
footage being installed, choice of styles, removal of sod or debris,
preparation of the site, and ease of installation. Like every other
construction project, it is necessary to obtain an estimate for your
particular installation. Carolina Curb It provides
FREE on-site estimates.
